Phalada Payasam – Rich Kerala Dessert for Onam

Kerala Style Phalada Payasam Recipe

Phalada Payasam is a festive dessert prepared with milk, vermicelli, sago, and rice – rich in flavor and perfect for the sweet ending to your Onam Sadya.

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup vermicelli (semiya)
  • 1/4 cup cooked rice
  • 1/4 cup sago (sabudana), soaked and boiled
  • 4 cups full-fat milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • 10-12 cashews and raisins
  • 1/4 tsp cardamom powder

Instructions:

  1. In a heavy-bottomed pan, boil milk and cook vermicelli until soft.
  2. Add cooked rice and sago. Stir and simmer for 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add sugar and cardamom powder. Mix until sugar dissolves.
  4. In a small pan, fry cashews and raisins in ghee.
  5. Add the fried nuts to the payasam and mix well.
  6. Serve hot or chilled after your Onam feast.
