Kerala Style Thoran Recipe for Onam Sadya
Thoran is a simple yet flavorful dry vegetable stir-fry made with grated coconut – an essential side dish in every Onam Sadya. This classic Kerala-style Thoran recipe can be made with cabbage, beans, carrots, or a mix of your favorite veggies.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup chopped cabbage (or any vegetable of choice)
- 1/4 cup grated coconut
- 2 green chilies, chopped
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 sprig curry leaves
- 1 tbsp coconut oil
- Salt to taste
Instructions:
- Heat coconut oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
- Add chopped green chilies and curry leaves.
- Add the chopped vegetables, turmeric, and salt.
- Stir well, cover, and cook for 5-6 minutes until soft.
- Mix in grated coconut and sauté for 2-3 minutes.
- Serve hot with steamed rice as part of your Onam Sadya.
